Living in Knightdale, NC —

Your Local Real Estate Guide
By Rebecca Williams, Broker | RW Realty of NC, LLC | Updated March 2026

Is Knightdale, NC a good place to live?

Knightdale is one of the Triangle's best-kept secrets — and it's getting harder to keep. Situated just 20 minutes east of downtown Raleigh, Knightdale has transformed from a quiet small town into one of North Carolina's fastest-growing communities, growing by over 150% since 2000.  It delivers something increasingly rare in Wake County: genuine affordability, strong community character, and convenient access to Raleigh employment  all at the same time.

The overall cost of living in Knightdale runs about 7% below the national average, with housing prices approximately 24% lower than the national average. For first-time buyers and families relocating from higher-cost markets, that gap is meaningful.

What neighborhoods are in Knightdale, NC?

Knightdale offers a range of communities across different price points and lifestyles.

Knightdale Station / The Preserve at Knightdale Station is the town's anchor master-planned community. It offers various housing types including single-family homes, townhomes, and condos alongside parks, pools, and walking trails. It's the most established planned community in town and a popular choice for buyers who want amenities without leaving the neighborhood.

Langston Ridge draws young professionals and growing families. It's known for quality construction and a tight-knit atmosphere — residents have a clubhouse, outdoor pool, and walkable sidewalks throughout. The community sits about 10 minutes from downtown Raleigh with easy access to I-40, I-540, and US-264.

Widewaters caters to buyers seeking more space and privacy. It's a master-planned community known for custom homes on estate-sized lots, with walking trails, a tot lot, and a community pool.

Stoneriver is one of the newer additions. This master-planned community features single-family homes and townhomes with a clubhouse, saltwater pool, and fitness spaces — with national and regional builders actively building phases through 2025 and 2026.

Downtown Knightdale offers the historic alternative — a charming historic district with a vibrant Main Street, local shops, restaurants, and regular community events.

What is the Knightdale, NC housing market like?

Knightdale is a somewhat competitive market where homes typically sell in around 80 days, with the average home selling for about 2% below list price. Well-priced homes move significantly faster — hot listings go pending in roughly 38 days.

New construction communities in the area typically feature homes ranging from 1,800 to 3,500 square feet, primarily in craftsman and traditional styles. This variety means buyers can find both move-in-ready resale homes and to-be-built options depending on timeline and preference.

For sellers, Knightdale continues to draw buyers from across the Triangle and from out-of-state markets. Among those searching to relocate into Knightdale, buyers from the Washington DC metro, Fayetteville, and New York represent the largest incoming groups a signal that the town's value proposition is reaching well beyond the Triangle.

What is there to do in Knightdale, NC?

Knightdale Station Park is a community hub, offering playgrounds, playing fields, picnic areas, tennis courts, an amphitheater, and several trails. The Mingo Creek Greenway connects to Raleigh's 33-mile Neuse River Trail for those who prefer a longer run or bike ride.

For a locally-made beer, Oak City Brewing Company operates a tap house and beer garden in historic downtown Knightdale.  The town also hosts regular festivals and community events throughout the year that draw residents from across the area.

A Knightdale Recreation Center and Community Pool give residents additional places to stay active and get involved year-round.

How far is Knightdale from Raleigh?

Knightdale sits just 10 miles from downtown Raleigh, separated by the Neuse River.  Most commutes to downtown reach 15–20 minutes under normal conditions. The I-540 Outer Beltline runs through town, making North Hills, RTP, and RDU Airport all accessible in under 30 minutes — a significant advantage over more distant Triangle suburbs.
